Company Commits Long-term Future to St. Louis County

Save-A-Lot will begin construction on a new corporate headquarters at the Crossings at Northwest in St. Ann. This significant investment will create 64 new jobs and retain more than 450.
“Save-A-Lot is a strong and growing company that has been a valued member of our corporate community for over 40 years,” St. Louis County Executive Steve Stenger said. “The company’s latest investment adds to the incredible revitalization effort at a formerly shuttered shopping mall.”
“The Crossings at Northwest is home to more than 2,500 jobs, which creates $328 million in economic impact,” Stenger said. “Congratulations to Save-A-Lot’s leadership for recognizing that St. Louis County is a great place to live and do business. I’m proud of the work we are doing each and every day to grow good jobs here in St. Louis County.”

To help retain the company in St. Louis County, the County Council is being asked to approve Chapter 100 bonds. The bonds provide for the company to pay 50 percent of assessed personal property taxes on computers and other office equipment for the next 15 years.
Save-A-Lot is a familiar name for many in the area. In fact, the company began with a single store in Cahokia, Ill., in 1977 and expanded quickly into St. Louis and beyond. Today, Save-A-Lot’s store and distribution network includes more than 1,200 corporate and licensed stores in 36 states and 16 wholesale distribution centers. Save-A-Lot offers shoppers fresh produce and top-quality meats, as well as local and national brands at discounted prices.
“We had wonderful conversations with Save-A-Lot’s leadership team and they recognized that St. Louis County is the right place to grow,” Partnership CEO Sheila Sweeney said. “This is a wonderful company and these high-paying headquarters jobs stimulate growth not only in North St. Louis County, but throughout the region.”
The mixed-use buildings at the Crossings at Northwest, formerly Northwest Plaza shopping mall, currently house notable companies including Charter Communications, Starbucks and Menards, as well as a wide range of St. Louis County government services.
